IUEC Leadership

Eric McClaskey was elected assistant general president at the IUEC’s 33^rd General Convention in August 2026, where he ran unopposed for the position. Prior to his election as assistant general president, Brother McClaskey served as the Safety Department’s director of safety and previously as director of codes & standards, where he helped advance engineered solutions that strengthened safety for elevator personnel and the riding public.

Assistant General President McClaskey joined the IUEC in December 1994 and was initiated on August 17, 1995 as a member of Local 8, San Francisco, CA, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. Brother McClaskey quickly rose through the ranks of Local 8 and was elected to the position of business representative in April 2009 and then business manager in November 2012, where he served for seven years overseeing the day-to-day operations of the local union, before becoming an International officer.

Brother McClaskey served as an International vice president from 2013 through 2018. In January of 2019, he stepped away from his position as vice president to become a national coordinator with the Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund, where he remained until he joined the staff at the General Office.

With more than 30 years of experience in the elevator industry, as a journeyman mechanic, business representative and safety leader, Assistant General President McClaskey has a deep expertise of collective bargaining, safety, codes, and standards across multiple sectors. He is a Qualified Elevator Inspector, OSHA Outreach trainer, and Certified Safety Professional. Brother McClaskey serves on the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) A17.1 Standards Committee, as well as its Electrical and Earthquake Safety Committees. He is also a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Working Group 12 on Cybersecurity and Working Group 13 on New Technologies.

Assistant General President McClaskey holds a bachelor’s degree in ornamental horticulture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and is a licensed landscape contractor. He is proud to call San Francisco home where he enjoys spending time with his wife Sandy, daughter Courtney, and son Cole.

General Secretary-Treasurer Larry J. McGann was unanimously elected IUEC general secretary-treasurer at the 2011 General Convention and unanimously re-elected at the 2016 and 2021 General Conventions.

Brother McGann started his career in the elevator industry in November 1974 in Richmond, VA, and a year later, joined IUEC Local 51, Richmond. He served in numerous elected offices within the local union—recording secretary, vice president, and president—prior to his election as business manager in December 1997. He also served as a NEIEP instructor and was named Instructor of the Year for the Southeast Region for the 1994-1995 school year. Larry has also made continuing education a personal priority earning instructor status for the OSHA 10-Hour Safety Program and graduating from the Harvard Trade Union Program.

Brother McGann’s leadership was quickly recognized by the International when he was appointed as a trustee to the National Elevator Industry Pension Plan in 1997 and then appointed to the Joint Jurisdictional Committee in 1999 by then General President Edward C. Sullivan. In 2001, he was asked to join the Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund as assistant national director. Just one year later Brother McGann was appointed as a regional director overseeing a jurisdiction that covered the southeast United States.

As general secretary-treasurer, Larry has served as chair/co-chair of the National Elevator Industry Benefit Plans and chair/co-chair of the National Elevator Industry Educational Fund. Brother McGann has been an IUEC Convention delegate since 1986, serving on numerous committees including the Labor Committee, By Laws Committee, NEIEP Committee, Resolutions Committee, and Health and Pension Committee, to name a few.

General Secretary-Treasurer McGann is the proud husband to wife Rosie, proud dad to his daughter Tanya and son-in-law Jeffrey, proud uncle to his nephew Robbie, and doting grandfather to grandsons Garrison and Grady, and loving great-uncle to his niece Kensley and nephew Landon.
